The Insights and Problems that Come with Fast Food

Burger king, McDonald's, Wendy’s - which one are you craving today. It’s hard to miss them specially as of 2012 there were 263,944 fast food restaurants in America. Most of the people there were revealed of eating fast food weekly, with all that fast food and advertisements you must be craving for the new egg sandwich from Subway, but did you ever think of what really is inside that sandwich? David DiSalvo a writer at forbes decided to really look into and find out what really is inside the egg sandwich only to find out that it’s made of a strange mix of egg and ‘’premium egg blend’’ some ingredients in the blend were found out to be ingredients used in soaps and shaving creams. Now maybe, you’re trying to be healthy by ordering a salad but unsurprisingly many fast food restaurants don’t list all the ingredients used in the salad, it was found out many restaurants dust the lettuce with propylene glycol, to make it more crispy. Even though it was tested and found out it’s safe for consumption, the chemical can be found in antifreeze.

Over the years the amount of food eaten in a fast food restaurant has increased. If you were to eat a cheeseburger 20 years ago, it would have weighed around 333 calories but now it’s nearly double the size making it around 590 calories! Thats a lot of calories for just one meal specially adding fries and drinks to it, this is just adding to your waistline and getting sick. Fast foods are high in fat, sodium and sugar, which leads to obesity, diabetes and heart diseases. Fast food/Junk food don’t contain the nutrition to stay healthy, but instead make you less energised. The high level of sugar in them over works your metabolism, also as they don’t contain carbohydrates your blood pressure drops suddenly making you cranky and craving for sugar, thus more fat.

Think more wisely when you choose to have fast food, read the ingredients and see the calories containing in it. Make sure you don’t have a lot of fast food, once or twice a month is good, otherwise you’re ruining your health and damaging your body. Take a while to think over your order, think if you’re not just forcing it down your stomach, whether you're really hungry or not? Think wisely and don’t just eat fast food.

  1. Millions of people eat fast food every day, fast food is cheap, it tastes good and not to mention it satisfies you. Fast food can lead you into further health problems such as diabetes, heart diseases, obesity and so on. Although this may be true Fast food doesn't not contribute positively to you being. For the most part I never consume Fast Food but there are special occasions.

  2. Dear Ishita,

Everyone is looking for a cheap meal to eat and of course delicious food. Most people when they go to McDonal's and ask for a salad think that they are eating a healthy meal, of coarse if is heathier than a hamburger but that does not mean that it is healthy. I agree that fast food is increasing rapidly and we should worry about that, 263,944 is a large number and that was in 2012 imagine how many restaurants exist now... I personally do not like fast food and I am proud of that. You did a nice job!

  4. Like you I do not eat fast food. I admit that they do taste good and that its practical for people that have no time to sit down and eat calmly. However it will always be fattening and unhealthy no matter what you order. 2 years ago at my school we watched the film Super Size Me. I was terrified of what Mc Donald's could do to you're body, health and how the food was made. I haven't been to Mc Donald's since. I agree that it is important for people to know that fast food is NOT healthy.

  5. People who eat fast food are not careful enough with their bodies. They are on a rush and they think "one time thing" but then that one time becomes a 3 time thing. Have you seen the movie, Supersize Me, its really good. Its about how a healthy man decides he is only going to eat fast food for a month. Nothing else. I agree with you that fast food is not good in any aspect. It is scientifically proven. That's why I avoid it the best I can. I wonder how many fast food restaurant are in the US now...

  6. I like fast food, but I still only eat it like once a month and its like a burger with a soda and thats all. Because one soda is like 17 spoons of sugar and a burger is like you said 600 calories. When people eat a lot of fast food they tend to go more and more times a week to fast food restaurants and get diabetes and obesity. Many fast food restaurants don't put the real ingredients in the recepie and are giving people chemicals that are harming there body.

  8. Fast food is an industrial empire, fast food places like McDonalds and Burger King make Millions out of selling unhealthy products and in return give people unhealthy food fried in grease creating obesity and diabetes among other health issues that come along with the consumption of fast food. In order for these companies to make even more money they target little kids, which can get addicted to the disgusting fat food more easily than adults, with toys and kiddie meals. Everyone knows that these places are bad for us yet they still go there, damaging their bodies more and more each time. Thankfully I stopped eating at these places when I was nine but there are many people who keep eating there every day,
Thank you for writing about such an important issue.
