Austin a 13 year old boy on September 15 2014 was stuck in a “Tampines Mall” with no money and no way to get home. Austin Goes to UWCSEA which is a school the revolves around service and giving back to the community.
That day the sun was shining as bright as a that moment when lighting strikes the ground. At 4:20 gardening ended and Austin rushed to the public bus. On the bus Austin heard his name being called by an unconfined source. It turned out to one of Austins 10th grade friends Andrew who lived very close to school. As Andrew got off the train Austin remembered that he had no money and he needed to ask Andrew but it was too late. Austin tried to convince his mom to let him take a cab but her response was” NO what do you think I am your bank or something. You know that money doesn’t grow on trees.” Austin Tried to call his father.
“Why don’t you have any money on you? Why isn’t your MRT card topped up? Why do you always do this?” these are some of the comment made by Austin's father. He ended with this is your last time taking a taxi for service. Austin was very emotional about this and replied by”Well maybe if you would spend sometime at home rather than going to football practice that you're not getting paid for then this wouldn't be happening”. This would soon turn into an urgent that Austin couldn’t win. It felt like for a moment that I was stranded on a deserted island with only limited resources.
When Austin got into a blue honda taxi. The taxi driver knew by the look on his face that Austin was having a bad day. He started the engine and we were off. I told him that “I am going to 59 Blair rd by Outram park. In the cab ride I asked him” What would you do if you're really angry at your parents for something they didn’t do.” He said “Blame yourself not anyone else”.
